Properties of SBS/MCF-Modified Asphalts Mixtures Used for Ultra-Thin Overlays

In order to produce high-viscosity and high-toughness asphalt for ultra-thin overlays, the conventional cement was modified with high-content SBS micro carbon fiber (MCF). The performances of were studied by tests penetration, softening point, ductility, kinematic viscosity, multiple stress creep recovery (MSCR), dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) bending beam (BBR). Mixture properties rutting, low-temperature bending, freeze–thaw splitting, four-point fatigue modulus. results reflect that addition MCF could enormously improve high- properties, increase viscosity asphalt, toughness asphalt. When content 6%, content, G*/sin δ R values first increased then decreased, Jnr value decreased increased. 0.8%, overall performance best. Adding into an mixture or increasing improved rutting resistance, crack water stability, mixture. At same temperature frequency, there little difference in phase angle between 6%SBS + 0.8%MCF 5%SBS 0.0%MCF mixtures, modulus slightly higher over whole range. It can be concluded enhance met requirements used it had great road service application requirements.
